220609 Recent Lungworm case in Hayle | Lungworm increasing threat to Cats and Dogs

Following a recent case in Hayle of Lungworm

Angiostrongylus vasorum has been found with increasing frequency in the UK and across Europe, posing a growing threat to domestic dogs. Previously, A. vasorum was regarded as confined to small pockets in West Cornwall (Truro area) and South Wales (Swansea area). However, by 2000 reports suggested that it had become established in south-east England. It has since been recorded in dogs in the Midlands and as far north as Glasgow, so that now it is perceived as a potential threat to domestic dogs throughout the UK mainland.  read more »

Police statement after collision in Basset Road, Camborne

 

A 65-year-old was taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a two vehicle collision in Camborne on the weekend.

Police were called to the incident which took place on Basset Road in the town, shortly before 1pm on Sunday, April 24. 

A car and a motorcyle were involved in the collision. The 65-year old
rider of the motorycle suffered serious injuries and was taken to

‘Don’t pretend Covid has disappeared!’ This is the message to Cornwall’s residents and visitors ahead of the busy Easter break.

People are also reminded that all Covid-19 testing sites are now closed as part of the Government’s Living with Covid strategy and move to end free testing for the general population.

Some people – including those living and working in health and care settings – will still have access to free tests but the majority will have the option of purchasing them. More information on this will be available on the Government website.

Residents will pay significantly less to travel by bus from next week under a new pilot scheme led by Cornwall Council to encourage more people to travel by bus.

The reduced bus fares pilot scheme is a first for a local authority and follows a successful bid by the Council for £23.5m funded by UK Government.

It will mean adult bus passengers will, on average, pay one-third less for their fares when new summer timetables are introduced on Sunday, April 10.  read more »

Mel Sheridan asked for a video to be shown on the projector depicting the water pipe which
has caused her 10 years of ongoing problems. She explained that the pipework was not shown
on any maps and was classed as land drainage. Mel said that she has previously asked George
Eustice MP to try and get South West Water (SWW) to adopt the pipework, but she felt he had
not helped due to an incorrect report from Cornwall Council (CC).  She questioned why she
should be paying council tax and /or water rates.  She asked for Hayle Town Council (HTC) to
call a meeting on the subject with George Eustice MP, Loveday Jenkins and John Martin.  It
