Jobs and investment boost
for West Cornwall

Debenhams and other high quality retailers have announced plans for new stores in Hayle, creating hundreds of new jobs and improving the retail offer in West Cornwall.

It is part of a £35 million proposal that is being promoted by Cranford Developments, to be built next to the existing West Cornwall Shopping Park

Transport and environmental improvements are also proposed, including an enhanced County Wildlife Site.

Before the plans are submitted to Cornwall Council, we would welcome your comments and views.

Next Steps

We will review all the feedback we receive from local people before submitting a planning application by the end of the year. If approved, we would hope to start work in Summer 2014 with the retail stores set to open in Autumn 2015.

Enhancing West Cornwall's
shopping offer

Cranford Developments are proposing a £35 million high quality retail scheme for West Cornwall.

The plan is to develop a site next to the existing West Cornwall Shopping Park, reinforcing Hayle as one of Cornwall's leading shopping destinations. The plan includes:

  • The development of a new flagship Debenhams store, one of the UK's leading fashion, health and beauty retailers
  • A further eight retail stores including River Island, TK Maxx, Fat Face and H&M
  • Three new cafe/restaurants including Frankie & Benny's and Caffé Nero
  • 500 car parking spaces and cycle parking.

Environmental
enhancements

The scheme will deliver a wide range of environmental improvements to the local area and ensure that sustainability features are incorporated into the development.
We are proposing:

  • An enhanced County Wildlife Site between Hayle and Angarrack
  • A green buffer between Angarrack and the proposed development
  • New community open space and picnic area
  • The replacement of the existing lorry park with a new lagoon and bird hide
  • Extensive landscaping and tree-planting
  • New pedestrian and cycle links along the historic former Hayle Railway
  • Energy efficient stores.

Improved
transport links

The new development will provide a range of transport improvements, including:

  • A30 improvements
  • A new roundabout on Marsh Lane to access the development car park
  • New pedestrian links to the existing West Cornwall Shopping Park and surrounding sites, including using the historic former Hayle Railway
  • New and improved cycle facilities
  • A new bus stop on Marsh Lane.

New jobs
for local people

When completed, the scheme is likely to generate around 450 retail jobs. The shops will offer a variety of job and training opportunities. They will work closely with Jobcentre Plus to ensure opportunities for local people.

Further jobs and business opportunities for local contractors will be created through the construction stage.
