There has been a large rise in the number of community deaths in Cornwall reported in the past 24 hours involving people who have tested positive for Covid-19.

The Government dashboard is reporting 20 new deaths across all settings, including one hospital death.

As of 4pm today (Tuesday, February 9) there have been 60 new cases recorded in the previous 24 hours.

The total number of cases in the local authority area since the start of the pandemic now sits at 13,042.

The seven-day rolling total of cases has now dropped to 513 cases recorded in the seven days leading up to February 4. Data from the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete.

This represents a weekly rate of 89.7 cases per 100,000 people.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK has increased by 12,364 in 24 hours.

This brings the total to 3,972,148 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

There has been one further hospital death in Cornwall reported today, at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust.

This leaves the total at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust at 152 and brings the total at the CPT to 50.

There have now been 202 Covid-19 deaths in total in Cornwall's hospitals since the start of the pandemic.

The overall total number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – is now at 382 recorded in the 28 days after a positive test result, including 20 today.

The number of deaths simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is now at 378, with this figure updated weekly. There was a rise of 54 in the most recent update, with the figures refreshed.

Nationally a further 509 people, who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 76,080.

Patients were aged between 27 and 100 years old. All except 23 – aged 45 to 95 years old – had known underlying health conditions and their families have been informed.

The date of their death ranged from December 27, 2020 to February 8, 2021 with the majority being on or after February 4.

Of those 29 were in the South West.

The overall UK figures today show 1,052 more people to have died within 28 days of their first positive test result.

This takes the total number of UK deaths within 28 days to 113,850. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

As of today (Tuesday, February 9) 12,646,486 people in the UK have received their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 516,392 people have had their second dose.
