Cornwall has reacted with fury after two dead otters were found dumped in a layby in Cornwall.

Officers from Penzance police were called to the scene near Angarrack, Hayle, on Wednesday (February 13) after the two animals were discovered by members of the public.

Police believe the animals might have been killed and then dumped in the layby.

Trapping, injuring or killing an otter – whether deliberately or through carelessness – is a serious offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Offenders face an unlimited fine and up to six months in prison.

Dozens of people took to Cornwall Live’s Facebook page to condemn the culprits.

Lynn Williamson added: "Who could do such an evil thing? [Must have been] Angler or other wildlife abuser. Hope they get their comeuppance.”

“Such a barbaric evil thing to do! Who ever done this is in humane,” Tracey Fanson said.

Catherine Lawry said it was “barbaric”. She said: “I hope that the culprits are caught and given the punishment they deserve.”
