HAYLE TWINNING ASSOCIATION:

Once again the visit of Hayle's friends from twinned town PORDIC in Brittany is over for another year. This happens so quickly.  The group of 40 arrived on Wednesday May 4 at 11pm, they were met and went off with their hosts. Some knew each other, the others were meeting for the first time. The following morning there was a welcome reception at the council offices, Nick Farrar the deputy mayor was there to greet them and there were some nibbles and some soft drinks for everyone provided by the twinning association. Photos were taken then it was down to the new Tri-station to be shown around. Chris and Ian showed everyone round. In the evening the members of Pordic judo club were invited to meet up with Hayle judo club for an informal get together. It was a very interesting and entertaining evening which will hopefully lead to links between these clubs.  This is what twinning is all about! On Friday some visited Paradise park in Hayle, some visited different gardens and others visited ancient sites, the Isles of Scilly was another destination. Of course on Saturday some went to Helston Flora day. it was then time for the goodbyes which is always difficult.

The association would like to thank Nick, the council, the Tri-station and the judo club for their welcomes.

The return visit to Pordic happens in August, leaving Hayle on Saturday 27 and returning on Wednesday 31.

Next year is the 20th anniversary so that will be a special year.

Fund raising continues throughout the year. On Saturday July 2 there will be a coach trip to Buckfast Abbey at only £14.per person. To reserve a place please call Maurice in good time on 01736 753341.

HAYLE ROTARY CLUB:

Recently club members were visited by three speakers from the charity Connections with Music who gave an in depth video and talk on this innovative charity work.  The superb presentation also included a hands-on period when a selection of musical instruments was handed to Rotarian members to try their luck at making music as a calming influence.  Rotarians stayed awake but the adjoining bar celebrants were suddenly found to be in induced peacefulness, either in awe or departed for a more tranquil location. Rotarian John Gorst on behalf of club members was fulsome in his praise of Caroline, Carine and Kyle who for their presentation and dedication to providing help for Autism sufferers and those with associated problems.

The next vocational visit will see Rotarians and their friends take advantage of an invitation from the Cornwall Air Ambulance charity to visit their new

headquarters at the St. Mawgan/Newquay airport.
