Missing person - have you seen him?

Issued on behalf of South Wales Police

Police in Cardiff are continuing to appeal for information with regard to the whereabouts of Glen Douglas Doyle, (also known as Glenn Naylor), 32, who has been reported as missing.

Detective Sergeant Matt Powell of Cardiff CID said: “Glen has not been seen for several weeks and we are keen to hear from him or anyone who knows where he may be.

“I want to reassure Glen that he has done nothing wrong and we just need to see him to ensure he is safe and well. This can be done discretely and how he wishes.”

Best Night Ever

Start and end the night right

Devon and Cornwall Police have launched a new campaign to advise young people on staying safe during their summer proms and parties.

“The best night ever...” campaign aims to educate young people about enjoying themselves at social occasions but also reminds them to take measures to ensure they protect their personal safety.

Young people’s judgement may be affected by peer pressure, alcohol, drugs or lack of knowledge and during nights out they may find themselves in situations out of their control. The campaign provides safety advice on getting home, drinking alcohol, peer pressure, relationships and sex.

The force are working with schools to communicate these messages and are offering them opportunity to have their local Youth Intervention Officer visit to discuss the themes with students. They will also be using social media platforms to engage and interact with young people to reiterate the messages.

This campaign is an extension to the #NoBlurredLines campaign which has been running since last September and highlights the issues around healthy relationships, consent and sex.

DCI Brett Mitchell from the Public Protection Unit said; “We want young people to enjoy their proms and parties and this campaign is designed to raise awareness and support young people to make the right choices because sometimes things can go wrong”

“Young people’s judgement may be affected on a night out but this can lead to them being vulnerable. We want to educate and prevent this, before it happens. Our campaign asks them to think before going out to parties so they don’t find themselves in situations out of their control.

“We also want to let young people know that if they need help or advice about an incident that may have happened, we have specially trained officers who can guide them, and there are dedicated support agencies that will provide support as well.

Were you the driver of a yellow car???

Police are trying to trace the driver of a yellow car that is suspected of being involved in a road traffic collision that occurred on the A30 Camborne at the weekend.

A grey Subaru Impreza, travelling on the A30 eastbound at Tolvaddon, collided with the central reservation and landed on the westbound carriageway at around 9.15pm on Saturday 9 May 2015.

Officers are keen to trace a yellow car that left the scene of the collision and may have vital information that could assist with the investigation.

MPC 6210 Roome, based at Camborne Traffic Centre, said: “We are trying to identify the yellow car and appeal to the driver to come forward.

“We would also like to speak to anyone else who has any information about the vehicle or witnessed the collision.”

The female driver of the Impreza, registered to Truro, was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Both carriageways were closed as a result of the collision. Highways were called to repair the central reservation and the road was fully re-opened at around 11:30pm.

Anyone who can assist with the investigation is asked to contact MPC Roome by emailing 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk or calling 101, quoting reference 784 of 9 May.

Crown currency trial Five found guilty (relating to 3 Hayle Based Companies)

Four men and one woman have been convicted of fraud following a trial lasting nine weeks at Southwark Crown Court.

All five defendants stood trial in relation to offences of fraudulent trading, false accounting, money laundering and theft.

This followed a 2 year and 9 month police investigation by the Force’s Economic Crime Unit into the failure of three Hayle based companies, namely, Crown Currency Exchange Ltd (CCE), Crown Holdings Ltd (CHL) and Mayfair & Grant Ltd (M&G).

This is the largest fraud investigation ever undertaken by the Devon & Cornwall force.

Susan Benstead aged 70 years from Penzance was found guilty of money laundering.

Edward James aged 75 years from Glastonbury was found guilty of fraudulent trading.

Julian Benstead aged 46 years from Penzance was found guilty of fraudulent trading.

Roderick Schmidt aged 46 years from Penzance was found guilty of fraudulent trading and theft.

Stephen Matthews aged 51 years from Penzance was found guilty of false accounting .

The Judge has adjourned sentencing until Friday 12th June.

Following the verdicts the Senior Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Bean commented.

‘Devon and Cornwall Police welcome the decision of the court today.
‘This has been a lengthy and complicated enquiry into the activities of an Organised Crime Group who have defrauded in excess of 12,000 victims throughout the UK over a 4year period. This group acted together to falsely trade over the internet as legitimate companies whilst in fact were insolvent from December 2006. False accounts were submitted to Companies House and substantial amounts of money stolen from the company accounts to fund lavish lifestyles. The total loss to the victims’ is in excess of £19.5million.

‘The police investigation has been both lengthy and complicated. It has been conducted by a small team of experienced fraud investigators. It has involved the detailed examination of in excess of 1,500 documents, 3000 exhibits, 370 bank accounts and 80 computers. Enquiries have been conducted throughout the UK, in France and Bulgaria.

‘Following these verdicts Devon and Cornwall Police will pursue the confiscation of criminal assets with a view to obtaining compensation for the victims who have provided statements of loss to the police’.

A post-election rant…

uk_election_campaign_01

The polls have finally closed and no one’s propaganda can make the blindest bit of difference now. The national campaign seems to have been painfully long and negative, without shedding too much light on the issues that will make the most difference to people’s lives. I’m glad it’s over.

Here in North Cornwall I really hope Dan Rogerson is re-elected – he’s been a fantastic local MP for the past ten years and, in my opinion, fully deserves to carry on the good work.

Nationally – in spite of a really nasty set of exit polls – I hope the numbers work out in such a way that the Tories are nowhere near government this time. Their wilful disregard for the vulnerable and disadvantaged has only been mildly tempered by Lib Dems in coalition and I have no desire to see a repeat.

Regardless of who forms the next government here is my wishlist of the things I hope they remember:

1. Please make sure that any debate about the future of Europe is based on the facts, not emotive propaganda led by tax exile newspaper owners with vested interests.
2. Please stop making scapegoats of immigrants. The vast majority work extremely hard and help provide so many vital services – the NHS, for example – that we take for granted. Be nice, people!
3. Please take a good hard look at whether our ‘First Past The Post’ system and an unelected House Of Lords are really relevant to 21st Century Britain.
4. Please don’t just accept the ‘austerity’ agenda without question. Much harm has been done in the name of deficit reduction and the suffering has mainly fallen on the poor and vulnerable rather than the super-rich speculators who caused the crash in the first place.
5. Please stop playing politics with Scotland and ‘The Union’. I don’t see any reason to be scared of Nicola Sturgeon, and the constant assault of the right wing press will only increase divisions and make a permanent split inevitable.

I leave you with the words of my great political hero, Abraham Lincoln, which I hope are at least partially relevant:

“We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”

Post-election rant over…
