Cancer survivor's second marathon | thisiscornwall.co.uk
An Angarrack woman who has survived cancer twice is getting ready to take part in her second London Marathon.
Last year Sylvie Pickering power-walked the 26.2-mile course to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, and the year before she took part in the Playtex Moonwalk, walking through central London at night wearing a decorated bra. This year, on Sunday, April 13, she is hoping to raise at least £1,500 for Children's Hospice South West's Precious Lives Appeal.
She said: "With collections at local supermarkets and sponsorship from many local people and businesses in the Hayle area - for which I am very grateful - my golden bond pledge of £1,500 does not look such a daunting total.
"We all know of the need to provide the families of Cornwall with a children's hospice without that very difficult journey to Little Bridge House or Charlton House. Brilliant as they are in providing the care and respite, the round journey of 300 miles-plus is in itself a marathon for those dedicated parents, siblings and, most importantly, the children themselves.
"I am lucky enough to have a fit and healthy 16-year-old.
"Please think of those not so lucky and help me on my marathon way by sponsoring me online at the website www.justgiving.com/sylviaellenpickering or ring 01736 753013."
